Social Connection & Companionship

Regular company, shared interests and a reason to leave the house.

All programmes

Loneliness affects sleep, appetite, blood pressure and willingness to seek care. It is a health issue, not a personal failing. This programme exists to make contact regular rather than occasional.

What the sessions cover

  • Interest circles - books, music, gardening, cooking, films, current affairs
  • Group walks, seated fitness and gentle yoga
  • Volunteering and mentoring younger people
  • Grandparenting support, including raising grandchildren
  • Reconnecting with friends, and making new ones after retirement or bereavement

How it runs

Weekly gatherings led by members rather than staff, with a phone buddy system for anyone who cannot travel.

Who it is for

Anyone whose social circle has shrunk - especially those living alone or newly widowed.
